Based in the Provence, Southwest France, the story behind this impressive refractor is a truly inspiring read. A visit in August of 2011 was an introduction to a remarkable man and an astounding telescope. Some pictures below, and please click here to go to the website (in French). This refractor was in a dire state (birds were living in the tube), when it was rescued from a slow fade into oblivion by Jean Baptiste Cretaux.
